We have tried Zippy's, Red Mill, and others, Charlies is by far the best burger place around. Get the sweet potatoe tater tots and the avocado burger for the perfect meal. Great for kids, they'll even let you turn the channel on the TV for the little ones if you need a break.

but...the first time my son and I visited was in the afternoon and we were the only people in the place. The food still took 20+ minutes, the waitress didn't write down the order and subsequently got it wrong. I don't eat beef, so had to re-order my chicken sandwich, which took another 14 or so minutes. I took it to go as my son had finished his meal by then. Well, we tried it again, this time for dinner. Only one other patron was present when we arrived. Despite it being dinner time the waitress seemed startled to see people walk in and, along with the cook, just stared at us like we (A mom and 2 kids) were going to rob the place. I had to ask, "Uh, should we sit?" When the waitress came to take our orders she suggested Charlie's Sauce for the fries, but was unable to tell us what that is exactly (Is it hot sauce? Catsup? Mayo based? Tartar? No idea.). The table was dirty and the food took an age to arrive. When we asked for the bill, we were told the total verbally. I handed over my credit card, and was brought a receipt for the total. No bill. No reading the bill. Nada. And we had to ask for silverware and napkins after our food arrived. Two TV's blared on different channels while we ate. The food is very limited but tasty, the prices are good, but the service is not at all great.

We went last night and truly enjoyed our burgers. As others have said, it's just a great, classic burger with a nice amount of fresh fixings and a good soft bun.
They must have a new menu, as there was a veggie burger option listed. We also had the hot wings, which were dangerously hot (but tasty). Our server told us that they've had a consulting chef come int to help them develop some flavored fries - with herbs, spices, and smoked salt(!). They're still generic frozen fries, but the herb mix is very good. We may be back for March Madness, as they have beer and TVs. |

What a gem! Big, tasty burgers at reasonable prices, super friendly service and a nice, mellow neighborhood vibe. Charlie's was a huge hit for lunch with the kids (no kid burger on the menu, but they were happy to make us one). We'll be back soon to try their tasty beer selection (nothing on tap, but good bottled selections) with dinner and to check out their breakfasts. They are a little off the beaten path (just off MLK north of Thurgood Marshall, where Casulita's was), but totally worth looking for.

We found the burgers absolutely wonderful. Very tasty Avocado Burger (with bacon!!) and Green Pepper Burger. Pleasant surprise that the green pepper was a real pepper with just enough pop, not a bell pepper. I seem to be alone here in not caring for the fries that seem pre-packaged guys. I'd prefer roasted potato wedges w/ skin or something similar. But hey, it's all about the burgers! Great personal service, too.

We went to Charlies and were pleasantly surprised. The burgers and veggie burgers were fresh, delicious and HUGE! I hope they come out with a kids burger option.

Why don't new restaurants visit the very successful local places like Geraldine's? They have great service and great food. I pay a bit more but usually have enough to take some home, especially the scrambles. There should be lines out the door for a good breakfast place in this neighborhood and instead it's hit and miss with Charlie's.

Great, friendly attentive staff. Good prices and decent breakfast --- with only one disappointment: Their 'hash browns' turned out to be tater tots. I suggested that they actually serve hash browns or at least warn customers what they are really going to get. They agreed.

Stopped in to check out Charlies last week. I'm hooked! If you want a scrumptious, hot off the broiler, homestyle burger served up with plenty of steak fries...this is your spot. The thing that seals the deal for me is not only the big, juicy burger but the friendly customer service. My son and I are going to try the breakfast this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.

Came in here on a weekday afternoon wondering if they had anything a vegetarian could eat. Very friendly (and eager) service, as we were the only customers. Prices were reasonable, about $7-8 for a burger and fries. I had a cheeseburger with a veggie patty and it was delicious! They do not advertise the veggie burger on the menu, but ask for it and they will accommodate. My burger was served on a big sesame seed bun with fresh lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, American cheese, and "special sauce". Fries are Red Robin style steak fries with a sprinkling of seasoning, served piping hot and delicious. My dining companion had a regular hamburger served with bacon, avocado, and Swiss cheese, which he enjoyed. The hours seem really wide open, which I appreciate, and I'd love to come back and try breakfast soon.
The restaurant seemed kind of cold (turn up the heat!) and the white table cloths seem out of sync with the casual menu, but otherwise, this spot is totally comfortable. I recommend it! |

Took the wife and kid over there to get
some takeout burgers. They were very good and the fries were excellent. Peeped a breakfast menu that looked great. The breakfast prices were very low. We will try that next. Burgers are around 8 bucks with fries. We will be back! |
