Similar to La Carta De Oaxaca in Ballad and while I certainly enjoy El Gallito on Madison, the quality is much better here. Carne Asada was exceptional with fresh avocado and prickly pear cactus. Staff and owner very friendly, clean and relaxed ambiance. Very happy to have in neighborhood! |

I also had the Chichinita Pibil which I would also highly recommend. Don't miss out on the fresh homemade tortillas. The margaritas were also excellent. This is by far the best authentic Mexican restaurant I have eaten at in Seattle. |

Our family of three just came home from dinner at El Mestizo with full, happy bellies. As CDgal says, this is truly one of the best Mexican restaurants in Seattle and I plan on returning whenever I get the craving for Mexican (which is often). I had the Chichinita Pibil, pork slow roasted in banana leaves accompanied by a pickled onion relish and rice, served with hand made corn tortillas. The pork was tender and flavorful and the relish provided was provided was a clean, acidic contrast to the smokiness of the meat. My husband had the Carne Asada, which he thoroughly enjoyed. It was accompanied by a grilled prickly pear cactus leaf, which I snuck pieces of. Our daughter, age 3, gobbled up bites of our dinners, and loudly declared, "This is yummy in my tummy!" We had ordered her the quesadillas, which she enjoyed, but are not the quesadilla you normally get. The warm corn tortillas were filled with moist lightly flavored chicken and a sprinkling of queso fresco. Very light, very delicious. The service was attentive and eager to please, and we were asked by a few staff how we were enjoying the meal. I promised to spread the word, so here I am! Please go and help this restaurant stick around. We deserve it! |

Went for dinner and had a ton of food with a few friends. The mole was great, interesting spicy flavor and not too chocolately. The other chicken dish (blanking on the name) was really my fave. Chicken cooked in a sauce and wrapped in a banana leaf, yummm. My partner really enjoyed the flavors of the chile relleno with the pecan cream sauce and stuffed with beef, but it was a little too sweet for me (I'm not a big cream fan). My only complaint would be the size of the margaritas! For $7, they should be in a tall glass, even if they don't add any more tequila. I could easily suck down 2 before dinner arrived! The staff were very friendly and helpful, and both the owner and chef came out to introduce themselves and check on the food. By far one of the best Mexican places in Seattle, and we're lucky enough to have it nearby! Can't wait for them to get a happy hour. Currently they seem to be closed between lunch and dinner, as we arrived right before 5 and they were just opening. Go check them out! Keep them alive in the neighborhood! |

Like Scott, I thought maybe a bunch of El Mestizo employees were writing about this place, but my interest was piqued enough to check it out. We had a great lunch - my daughter was delighted with her Mexican Coke and her filling burrito. I chose two yummy tacos. The cashier is not a native English speaker, & I confused her by giving her my complete order, rather than going don the line. I'll get that right next time...other than that, there seemed to be confusion (not with just us) about here or to go--maybe the counter staff can ask again. I'd have preferred a plate to my foil, but it was authentic & muy delicioso! |
